✦ ABOUT ART COMPETITIONS

Art competitions and prizes, answered.

Art competitions award prizes, from cash and acquisition awards to exhibitions and publication, selected by a jury. They range from small themed contests to major national prizes with awards above $50,000, and a strong placement can carry real weight on a CV.

This page lists competitions and prizes currently accepting entries. Every listing is checked by hand, shows the prize, entry fee, deadline, and eligibility, and links directly to the official rules on the organizer's site.

Are art competitions worth entering?
Selectively, yes. Prizes with named jurors, published past winners, and reasonable fees offer real value: money, visibility, and jury contact. Competitions with anonymous judging, no track record, and high fees are usually not worth your time. Arthead screens listings with exactly this in mind.
How much do art competitions cost to enter?
Entry fees typically range from free to about $50. Some major prizes are free to enter, while many juried competitions charge per work or per set of works. Every Arthead listing shows the fee up front, and free-to-enter competitions can be filtered directly.
What kinds of prizes do competitions offer?
Cash awards are the most common, alongside acquisition prizes where the host purchases the winning work, solo or group exhibition opportunities, publication features, and residency placements. The listing on Arthead summarizes the published prize for each competition.
Can international artists enter these competitions?
Some competitions are open worldwide; others, especially national prizes, are limited to citizens or residents of one country. Arthead verifies eligibility against the official rules and marks it on each listing, so check there before preparing an entry.
