About this call

The Athens Residency is the flagship program of ARCAthens, a New York nonprofit. The Spring 2027 residency runs for three months in Athens, Greece, from February 4 to April 26, 2027, with two Fellows in residence at one time. It is a structured, research-driven program built around scheduled engagements developed by ARCAthens, which may include studio visits, institutional meetings, collection visits and other curated encounters, balanced with time for independent research. Fellows take part in a public engagement event organized by ARCAthens. ARCAthens provides housing, travel, a US$3,000 fellowship prize and a weekly stipend of US$200 toward food and local transportation. Fellows have a private bedroom, private bathroom and shared kitchen, and Visual Art Fellows have access to a studio space. Applicants are selected by a three-person independent committee of arts professionals, and fellowships are announced in late November.

Who can apply

  • Limited by country or region
  • Medium: Mixed Media / Curatorial
  • Free entry
  • Open to applicants from all countries and nationalities who do not reside in Greece. Applications are accepted from October 16 to November 14, 2026. The residency runs February 4 to April 26, 2027, and Fellows are expected to stay based in Athens for the full duration and take part in the scheduled program and a public engagement event; personal travel is limited and needs prior approval. Fellows buy a basic coach round-trip ticket after ARCAthens approves the itinerary and cost, and are reimbursed within five business days; in exceptional cases of financial hardship ARCAthens may arrange travel directly. Visas are not needed for US nationals; for others, visas where applicable are the Fellow's responsibility. Working language: English.
