About this call
The Ravenswood Australian Women's Art Prize, run by Ravenswood School for Girls since 2017, describes itself as Australia's highest-valued art prize for women, with $58,000 in prize money for 2027. It accepts all mediums in three categories: Professional Artist, Emerging Artist and Indigenous Emerging Artist. The three category prizes are acquisitive, so winning works go to the school. Finalists are announced on 31 March 2027, winners are announced at the Opening Night on 14 May 2027, and the Exhibition of Finalists runs from 15 to 30 May 2027 at Ravenswood School for Girls in Gordon, New South Wales, Australia, and online. Finalist works are offered for sale, with a 30% commission to the school.
Who can apply
- Australia only
- Medium: Painting / Drawing / Printmaking / Photography / Sculpture / Textile / Ceramics / Video / New Media / Mixed Media
- Entry fee: A$30
- Open to women artists resident in Australia during the twelve months before the closing date (the FAQ says Australian citizens, permanent residents or residents during those twelve months), aged 18 or over as at 1 February 2027; finalists may be asked for proof of residence. Enter one category only: Professional (an ABN and an established practice), Emerging (in the early stages of an art career) or Indigenous Emerging (Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent, identifying as such and accepted by a community, which must be named). Entry fee $50 for Professional, $30 for Emerging and Indigenous Emerging, non-refundable; emerging artists in hardship may email to ask for a fee waiver by 3pm on 28 January 2027 (Eastern Australia daylight time). Up to two works, entered separately in the same category; works must be original, finished by the time of entry and completed within the preceding 24 months, not prize winners elsewhere, and for sale, with the price set on entry and changeable by finalists only before 7 April 2027 (30% commission to the school; with a gallery, 20% gallery, 30% school, 50% artist). Collaborative works are eligible if every contributor is a woman. Works no heavier than 20 kg and no larger than 2 metres in any dimension including frame; videos up to 10 minutes, entered as a link. Submit online an artist's statement (up to 100 words), a CV, one to three JPEG images (up to 3 MB each, named with artist and artwork) and the sale price. Finalist works must be ready to hang or install (two-dimensional works framed with D-rings or a split baton, no hanging wires; sculptures must stand unsupported). Finalists deliver their work at their own cost between 6 April and 3 May 2027 and collect unsold work at their own cost between 30 May and 24 June 2027; work left uncollected may be kept or disposed of by the school from 5 July 2027. A finalist work may be requested for display at a partner organisation for an agreed period. Winners must be available for prize events and publicity, and winners and highly commended artists may be asked to give a complimentary masterclass for a partner organisation, likely in Sydney.
