Artist Occupied Residencies 2027-2028

About this call

The Firehouse Art Center in Longmont, Colorado, United States, hosts two Artist Occupied residencies a year: artists work in the South Gallery during open gallery hours so visitors can see working artist environments and processes, then present a solo exhibition in the Main Gallery. The 2027 Summer Residency runs July 1 to September 11, 2027, with the exhibition opening September 11; the Winter Residency runs November 1, 2027 to February 6, 2028, with the exhibition opening February 11, 2028. The program is a professional development opportunity for emerging and experienced visual artists. The studio has natural light, tall ceilings, a full sink, limited basement storage, 24-hour building access, wifi and access to a kiln for firing ceramics. Shortlisted artists are notified February 15, 2027, interviews are the week of February 27, and the final selection is announced March 6, 2027.

• Applicants must currently live and work in Boulder County, Colorado, or surrounding areas, and be able to commute to the Firehouse Art Center for the entire residency period. Residents work in the space at least ten hours a week (five hours, two days a week) during open gallery hours (Wednesday to Sunday, 12 to 5 pm), donate one original work to the annual Gala auction, and schedule at least three public events such as a workshop or artist talk. Selection criteria include merit of past work, readiness to engage with and benefit from the residency, and a demonstrable interest in interactive, participatory or socially engaged practice.
