About this call

The Community Folk Art Center (CFAC) in Syracuse invites artists to apply for Rooted & Rising, its 2027 Artist in Residence Program, made possible by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. The program supports four multidisciplinary artists over a six-week period. It is a non-residential residency for artists working in traditional, contemporary or hybrid folk and community-based art forms, and provides time, space, resources and opportunities to create, share and connect with the community. Each selected artist receives a $4,550 stipend, studio space at the Community Folk Art Center, support for materials up to a set amount, opportunities to present workshops, demonstrations or other public programs, promotion through CFAC's channels, and a culminating event or exhibition (amount to be determined in collaboration with CFAC). Applications are reviewed by a panel of CFAC staff, past program collaborators and external arts professionals; finalists may be invited for a short interview, and all applicants are notified of their status and may request feedback.
