About this call

The Space Taking Artist Residency (STAR), run by Fresh Arts, is an annual residency for Houston-area artists, creatives, collectives and curators to develop and present a large-scale project and public programming in a gallery at Winter Street Studios, Sawyer Yards, Houston, Texas, United States. In 2027 two artists or teams are selected, one for spring (March 15 to April 25) and one for summer (July 19 to August 30). Each receives six weeks of gallery space with 24/7 access, a $3,600 honorarium, a creative services stipend (amount to be determined), mentorship, marketing support and professional documentation of one event, and keeps 100% of revenue from ticketed events and sales. STAR is a hands-on, DIY residency and not a live/work residency: residents plan, install and run their own events, cover project costs from the honorarium, and attend mentorship meetings over three months. A juried panel reviews applications and interviews up to five candidates.
