About this call
DOMA Initiatives, in collaboration with the British Council, offers one Fellowship place in the Venice Fellowships Programme 2027. The 2027 British Pavilion exhibition at La Biennale di Venezia in Venice, Italy is a UK-Malaysia collaboration marking 70 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries. The Fellow spends one month in Venice between May and November 2027: half the time as an Exhibition Ambassador at the British Pavilion (28 hours a week of invigilation, tours and visitor engagement), half on an independent research or creative project connected to Venice, La Biennale, the Pavilion or the 2027 exhibition. Before departure, Fellows take part in the British Council's compulsory online pre-fellowship training. On return to Malaysia, the Fellow runs a sharing session, workshop or exhibition on their Venice project. Each Fellow receives a £5,050 grant towards travel, accommodation, visa and daily living costs. Applications are sent by email: the completed British Council application form, a CV and a portfolio or research proposal.
Who can apply
- Malaysia only
- Medium: Curatorial / Mixed Media

- Must be an active early-career professional in architecture or a related creative field, based in Malaysia, and over 18. The British Council also requires candidates to be enrolled at or connected to a Malaysian 2027 Programme Partner, to be fluent in English, and to have previous experience of a public-facing role. Applicants should show a portfolio that brings research or creative practice together with the themes of La Biennale, and outline a research or creative project for the Venice month. Fellows must be available for a full 30-day stay in Venice between May and November 2027 (three preferred Travel Groups are named on the form), book their own travel, visa, insurance and accommodation, and attend the compulsory online pre-fellowship training before departure (15 hours, March to April 2027). In Venice, Fellows commit to the full set of invigilation shifts, 28 hours a week, and submit a final project proposal one month before leaving for Venice. Within twelve weeks of returning, Fellows share their project in Malaysia, including a sharing session, workshop or exhibition for DOMA Initiatives. Send the completed British Council application form, a CV and a portfolio or research proposal to veronican@sunway.edu.my by 12:00 PM Malaysia time on 27 November 2026; applications without a CV, and late or incomplete submissions, are not considered. Written, audio or video applications are accepted: the form's answers are up to 150 or 250 words each, and a recording is no more than 10 minutes. DOMA has one Fellowship place for 2027 and interviews shortlisted candidates before nominating to the British Council.
