About this call

Sligo County Council invites professional artists and artist collectives working in all artforms to propose a community-engaged artwork for Dromore West and Easkey, two villages about 7km apart on the coast of west Sligo, Ireland. It is Commission 2 of Living Landscapes / Tírdhreacha Beo, funded through the Per Cent for Art Scheme. The work can be permanent or time-based, and should bring the two communities together over one year, from March 2027 to March 2028. The brief draws on public consultation; themes include the sea and the River Easkey, local history, the Rambling House tradition, intergenerational participation and the use of technology to record and share work. Selection is a two-stage open competition: up to five shortlisted applicants receive €800 each to develop a Stage 2 proposal, and one is awarded the commission, with a total budget of €76,000.

Who can apply

  • Open to applicants of any nationality
  • Medium: Installation / Mixed Media / Performance / New Media
  • Entry fee: See official site
  • Open to professional artists and artist collectives working in all disciplines, based in Ireland and internationally, at all points of their careers. Submit one PDF of no more than 10 pages and 10MB by email to arts@sligococo.ie with the subject line "Commission 2 - Stage 1 Application": concept outline including the approach to public engagement, sketches or visualisations where applicable, materials overview where applicable, an outline budget, up to three examples of previous work with images, and a CV of no more than three pages. Do not contact community groups at this stage. Proposals should not be political in nature. Applications by email only; posted or late applications are not accepted. Costs of preparing Stage 1 are the applicant's own. The outline budget should break down the commission, including artist's fee, production, events, documentation, collaborators, other fees, materials, fabrication and insurance. Time-based or temporary proposals must consider how the work will be documented and archived. The closing date is stated twice as 26 November 2026 at 4pm; the brief's indicative timetable gives 19 November 2026 at 4pm. Queries to rayneboothprojects@gmail.com before 12 November 2026 at 5pm. Shortlisted artists get a site visit and a Stage 2 brief; Stage 2 is due mid January 2027, with possible interviews in late January and the award in early February 2027 (indicative). The successful artist develops and delivers the work with the Arts Service and Project Manager, attends meetings, manages fabrication, production, installation and any events, documents the process, takes part in publicity and evaluation, and needs insurance and valid Tax Clearance Certification before contract. The brief does not mention an application fee.
