The Artist's Book Grant at Women's Studio Workshop is an eight to ten week residency for an artist to produce a limited edition book work. Working intensively in the WSW studios in New York's Hudson Valley, artists print and bind their own books and are encouraged to create an edition size no larger than 100 and no smaller than 50. The grant includes a stipend of USD 350 per week, up to USD 1,000 for materials, up to USD 250 for travel within the Continental US, free onsite housing and 24/7 studio access, along with technical advice, training on new equipment, techniques and materials, and production assistance. An outside jury of artists and curators chooses the grant recipients. Specifics of the sales contract are finalised between the artist and WSW staff on receipt of the award; the current standard contract gives 20 percent of the edition to the artist, keeps 20 percent (at least nine copies) with WSW for archival purposes and sales to standing order and repository institutions, and puts 60 percent into general distribution and sale. WSW artists' books are held in over 450 collections worldwide, including the Library of Congress, Yale University and Virginia Commonwealth University. Applications open 1 August 2026 and close 15 November at 11:59pm EST, with notification in March 2027 and the residency itself scheduled between September and June one year after application.

- WSW supports all women and trans, intersex, nonbinary and genderfluid people in residencies and internships. Applicants do not need to be based in the United States; the only WSW residency closed to non-US applicants is the Regional Grant. Current students may apply provided the academic programme does not overlap with the residency period. Five items are uploaded to Submittable: a current resume, a project description including the media required (200 words maximum), WSW's materials budget form, up to ten images of recent work with an image script. Two further items must be mailed to WSW and postmarked by the deadline: a physical book mock-up showing the actual size with at least one to two fully realised spreads, and the shipping form. Deep technical support beyond the general studio orientation is available at an additional USD 65 per hour.
