About this call
The Alaska State Parks Artist-in-Residence program gives artists up to five days in a State Parks cabin to explore the scenery and recreational resources of Alaska's state park system. The programme welcomes artists of all disciplines from anywhere in the world, and its stated intent is to highlight the parks for present and future generations while giving visitors a chance to see Alaska through the eyes of participating artists. It began in 2015 with seven artists in its first summer season and has added a new element each year. In return for the residency each artist donates at least one original work of art, photograph or written piece made during or inspired by their time in the park, delivered within six months of the residency; the artist provides a high resolution professional image of the donated work and relinquishes publishing and reproduction rights to it. Paintings, photographs and similar media should arrive ready to hang, preferably framed. Each artist also plans a community outreach event during or within three months after the residency, which can be a demonstration, a workshop, an artist talk, a performance or another event that shares the scenery and stories of the parks. Applications for the 2027 season open on 1 October 2026 and are due no later than 31 October 2026, with confirmations by 30 November. The application fee is 50 dollars and the completed form is emailed to the programme coordinator. Artists pay their own travel to and from the cabins.
