Michigan Central Art x Newlab Detroit 2027 Creative Residency

About this call

The Michigan Central Art x Newlab Detroit 2027 Creative Residency, supported by the Knight Foundation, offers two 12-week sessions for artists working at the intersection of art, technology, and society. Fellows receive a $30,000 unrestricted award and access to state-of-the-art fabrication facilities across Michigan Central, Newlab Detroit, and Henry Ford Health sites in Detroit. Two tracks are available: Art plus Technology (data visualization, wearable tech, accessibility, sustainability) and Art plus Health (care systems, wellness, health equity). Session One runs February 8 through April 30, 2027; Session Two runs May 17 through August 6, 2027.

Must be above the age of 25 and eligible to receive taxable income via SSN, ITIN, or EIN. The announcement encourages artists based in the United States to apply; the eligibility list itself names no residence requirement. Individual artists only; no groups or collaborations accepted.
