Call for Expressions of Interest: Wabanaki Ornamental Doorway, Mount Allison University
About this call
Mount Allison University invites Wabanaki artists and Wabanaki-led teams to submit Expressions of Interest for a permanent public artwork for an ornamental doorway portico at the R.P. Bell Library Centre for Innovation and Learning in Sackville, New Brunswick. The artwork will sit at the Café Commons, a gateway space to the building, and is intended as a visible and enduring acknowledgement of Indigenous presence, histories, intellectual traditions and living cultures within the university's built environment. Artwork proposals are not required at this stage; the final concept is developed with the successful proponent. The university is seeking artistic design services for fabrication by others, though proposals that include fabrication will also be considered. The work must suit permanent interior installation, reflect Wabanaki knowledge systems and artistic practices, and be designed for a minimum lifespan of 30 years. Concept development runs from October 1, 2026 to April 30, 2027, with fabrication anticipated in 2029 and the renovation completing in 2030.

- Expressions of Interest must include an artist resume or CV, a statement of artistic approach and connection to Wabanaki knowledge systems, images of relevant past work with an image list, and two professional references. Submissions must not exceed 25 pages total. Submission is electronic to a secure link; contact rterrio@mta.ca for upload access. Deadline is October 7, 2026, 4:00 PM ADT. Proponent teams must be Wabanaki-led and demonstrate meaningful relationships, consultation or collaboration with Wabanaki communities. Employees of Mount Allison University are not eligible.
