Walter Haymann Studio Grant 2026

About this call

The Walter Haymann Studio Grant gives one artist twelve months of free use of the Walter Haymann Foundation's studio in Zurich. The grant is aimed at professional artists at the beginning of their career and is intended to support them on their path and foster their development, with the jury deciding on the award from the submitted dossiers. The space is a working studio rather than a live-in studio: about 24 square metres on the ground floor of the foundation's house, looking onto a small garden, with a sink including a plaster separator, a mobile stove, a shared WC and two southwest facing windows for daylight. Access is not step free, and quiet hours apply because of the apartments in the building. The grant period runs from 1 February to 31 January of the following year, and a final exhibition takes place in the studio itself during the last two weeks. The grant holder is required to open the studio to the public at least once, to mount the final exhibition with the foundation's support, and to submit a written report at the end. The 2026 jury is Dominique Laemmli, Johanna Vieli and Ulrich Meinherz. Notifications go out by the end of October 2026 and the public award ceremony is on 26 November 2026 in Zurich.

• Artists may apply within ten years of completing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Fine Arts, so for the 2026 grant degrees from 2016 onwards are eligible. Artists whose residence has been in Switzerland for at least five years are eligible. Artists without a university degree may also apply if they can demonstrate a level of proficiency through an exhibition history and are within the first ten years of their artistic career. Particular consideration is given to artists who are not yet represented by a commercial gallery. Applications are accepted exclusively through the online form on the foundation's website, in German or English, and consist of a portfolio with recent work documentation, CV and exhibition history (maximum 15 A4 pages, PDF, maximum 10 MB, with video and audio as hyperlinks, filename Firstname_Lastname_Portfolio.pdf) plus a motivation letter of at most one A4 page (filename Firstname_Lastname_Motivation.pdf). An applicant may apply for either the Walter Haymann Prize or the Studio Grant in a given year, not both. Anyone who has already received a Walter Haymann Foundation award may not apply again. Only complete and timely applications are considered and the jury's decision is final, non-appealable and given without justification. By applying, participants agree to attend the public award ceremony on 26 November 2026 from 6pm in Zurich if selected, to name the award in their CV and biography, and to supply a portrait photo and three images of their work for publication.
