Guggenheim Fellowship 2027
About this call
The Guggenheim Fellowship is a mid-career award supporting the work of individuals who have made notable contributions to more than fifty fields across the arts, humanities, natural sciences, social sciences, and interdisciplinary areas. Each year roughly 200 Fellows are selected through a rigorous competition that assesses both past accomplishments and future plans, with recent success rates averaging around 5 percent. Applicants must be citizens or permanent residents of the United States or Canada, must be mid-career professionals who have made notable contributions to their field, and must propose a significant project they are prepared to complete at the highest level of excellence. Applications may be made as individuals or in pairs working on the same project. Previous Guggenheim Fellows, students currently enrolled in secondary, undergraduate, graduate or postgraduate programs, and organizations or institutions are not eligible. The foundation draws on a network of several hundred confidential advisers, and the 2027 application portal opens in mid-August 2026.

- The 2027 application portal opens mid-August 2026 and applications are due 15 September 2026; late applications are not accepted. Work examples are required in certain fields and must be uploaded or postmarked by 29 September 2026. Applicants submit the names and contact information of a minimum of three and up to four references who have agreed to write letters, and reference letters are due 13 October 2026. Applicants choose the one field they deem most representative of the proposed project. The foundation does not provide feedback on applications, and Fellows are announced in late April 2027.
