Sector Support, Innovation and Development is one of six funding opportunities offered through the Canada Council for the Arts programme Supporting Artistic Practice. It provides funding for projects to encourage and support the ongoing growth, strengthening and development of the arts sector by artists, arts professionals, cultural connectors, groups and organizations. The Council lists the next deadline as any time before the start date of the project or activity, which makes this a continuous intake opportunity rather than one with fixed rounds. It supports activities previously funded under Supporting Artistic Practice: Sector Innovation and Development. The wider Supporting Artistic Practice programme encourages a dynamic support system for the arts in Canada by funding Canadian arts professionals, groups and arts organizations who champion the Canadian arts sector, boost the capacity for artists to realize work and advance the conditions of creation, and it backs collaboration, targeted initiatives and career development opportunities. The programme awarded CAD 37.2M in 2023-24 across disciplines including visual arts, literature, music and sound, inter-arts, multidisciplinary activities and Deaf and disability arts. All funding opportunities are viewed, applied for and managed in the Council client portal.

All funding opportunities are viewed, applied for and managed in the Council client portal, so applicants need an approved funding profile before applying. Application Assistance is available to individuals or lead applicants for groups who self-identify as Deaf, hard of hearing, having a disability or living with mental illness, or as First Nations, Inuit or Metis facing language, geographic or cultural barriers.
