About this call

Field Projects, an artist-run space in Chelsea, New York, and In Situ Polyculture Commons, an arts residency in Southern Vermont, offer a fellowship for 2027 to an individual artist or a collaborative group of up to 4 people. It combines a 2 to 3 week residency at In Situ Polyculture near Saxtons River, Vermont, between July 1 and August 31, 2027, with a solo exhibition at Field Projects from September 9 to October 16, 2027, and a $1,500 stipend to use as the artist sees fit. The fellowship also includes a studio visit with Jacob Rhodes, preparation and installation support, and a co-hosted reception. Projects may be in any media as long as the exhibition has a strong visual art component; Field Projects looks for work that makes strong political statements, immersive installation and experimental work, and In Situ Polyculture for place-based, ecology-interested work. Jurors are Candace Jensen, Jacob Rhodes and Melissa Joseph. Five semi-finalists will be interviewed by video in late March and early April 2027, and awardees will be notified in early April.

Who can apply

  • Open to applicants of any nationality
  • Medium: Installation / Mixed Media / Painting / Sculpture / Photography / Performance
  • Entry fee: $45
  • Open to individual artists or collaborative groups of up to 4 people, applying with a single application; projects in any media with a strong visual art component for the exhibition. The application fee depends on when you apply: free from November 1 to November 15, 2026, $25 from November 16 to December 31, 2026, and $45 from January 1, 2027 until the deadline. All or most collaborators should attend the residency and the installation and opening of the show. Awardees cover travel to and from the residency and gallery and their own groceries at the residency, must complete the residency and exhibition period, attend the residency, work with Field Projects to install the show, and donate 2 small works (one to the residency, one to the gallery collection). The opening reception is on Thursday, September 9 or September 16, 2027, at the artist's choice; exhibition dates are firm. Partners, childcare supporters and children are welcome at the residency. Applicants may opt in to be considered for a regular non-fellowship ISPC residency session in 2027.
