About this call

The Artists Association of Nantucket invites applications for a funded Environmental Artist Residency, a month-long programme for artists whose practice engages with the environment, climate and the natural world. It is supported by the GHYC Foundation. Nantucket is a coastal island facing rapid environmental change including erosion, rising seas and shifting habitats, and the residency supports creative inquiry into that landscape. The selected artist lives and works on the island for three weeks, makes new work informed by its environment, and contributes to public dialogue around climate and environmental stewardship. Working with the Association's Education Department Director, the artist presents an artist talk, develops a community creative experience such as a workshop or participatory event, exhibits at the Champion Gallery, and runs public engagement including work with local youth. There is an option to collaborate with the Linda Loring Nature Foundation, the Nantucket Conservation Foundation or the Maria Mitchell Association.

  • Medium: Installation / Performance / Mixed Media / New Media / Sculpture

The application asks for personal and contact details, primary mediums, a biography of 150 to 200 words, an artist statement of 300 to 500 words describing the practice and its interest in environmental or place-based themes, 8 to 12 work samples or links to video and audio work each with title, year, medium and a short description, and a CV.
