Earth Matters

About this call

Earth Matters is Atlantic Gallery's annual juried open call for artists who draw from, manipulate or respond to the materiality of the earth. It welcomes work that is earth-made, using earth-derived materials, and work that is earth-focused, exploring land and water, geology and ecology through image, process, research, environmental inquiry or metaphor. The juror is Judith Kruger, a multidisciplinary visual artist known for her work with historic, natural pigments and ecological processes. The exhibition runs February 16 to March 6, 2027 at the gallery in Chelsea, New York City, United States, and award winners will be selected for a group show at a future date. Work must be for sale; the gallery takes a 40% commission.

Who can apply

• Entry fee: $35
• Open to international and US artists aged 18 or older. Only one entry per artist, 1 to 8 images (GIF, JPG or PNG, up to 50MB each), submitted through EntryThingy with fees paid by PayPal. Fee: $35 non-refundable for up to 3 entries and $10 for up to 5 more; multiple entries must be submitted at the same time for the lower additional fee. All work must have been made within the last five years, be no larger than 36 inches wide and 40 inches high (sculpture included), be ready to hang with no saw tooth hangers, and be for sale (40% commission). Suspended 3D work may not exceed 15 lbs and needs detailed hanging instructions with a photo and hardware; pedestal work must fit a 19 inch square pedestal or come with its own appropriate stand (two lower pedestals of 21 x 18 and 20 x 24 inches can be used if needed). Accepted media: oils, acrylics, watercolors, pastels, drawings, prints (no digital or giclee prints of original art and no AI generated artwork), photography, mixed media, sculpture in any medium and natural materials. Jury notification January 9, 2027. Accepted work must be delivered to the gallery in person or by proxy during regular gallery hours, stay for the whole exhibition, and match the entered image; no substitutions. Artists are responsible for insuring their own work if they wish; the gallery is not responsible for loss or damage on the premises or in transit.
