Tempe Center for the Arts (TCA) in Tempe, Arizona, United States invites Arizona-based artists to apply for By Degrees, its 2027 summer program, which asks: when small things accumulate, what do they become? One free Submittable application covers three opportunities. The group exhibition at the Gallery at TCA runs May to August 2027 and takes existing or in-progress work in all visual art media and interdisciplinary practices. Four artists each receive a $325 stipend to turn one of four storefront windows at the Tempe Post Office on Mill Avenue into a three-dimensional installation, on view May 13 to September 8, 2027. Three artists are selected for a 10-week residency inside the Gallery at TCA from May 31 to August 6, 2027, working about eight hours a week on a project that changes or builds over time, with a stipend of up to $2,500 and workspace, display space and storage provided.

- Open to Arizona-based artists. Free to apply; one Submittable application can cover one or several of the three opportunities. All applicants submit up to 10 work sample images (title, media, dimensions and year for each), an artist statement (maximum 700 words), an artist biography (maximum 300 words) and a resume or CV. Residency applicants also submit a letter of interest and project proposal, describing what they want to explore or create during the ten weeks, how it connects to By Degrees and why developing the work over time matters, plus contact information for two references. Visitors will see residents at work, and residents take part in community programs, professional development and social media opportunities. Deadline December 1, 2026 at 4:00 PM. Group exhibition artwork drop off is May 20 to 21, 2027, installation May 24 to 28 and pick up August 9 to 10, 2027. The Post Office windows are installed on May 13, 2027 and taken down on September 8, 2027.
