About this call
The Connecticut Office of the Arts and the Housatonic Museum of Art are buying artwork by Connecticut and tri-state regional artists for Beacon Hall at CT State Community College Housatonic in Bridgeport, Connecticut. The committee is considering two-dimensional wall mounted works that are not light-sensitive, such as paintings and digital art; interior sculptural works may be considered. The museum celebrates its 60th anniversary in 2027, and the committee is looking for works that connect to its existing collection, the college curriculum and the Bridgeport and Fairfield County communities. Submissions are reviewed on a rolling basis and purchasing begins during the submission period, so early entries are encouraged.
Who can apply
- Limited by country or region
- Medium: Painting / New Media / Sculpture / Mixed Media
- Free entry
- Open to artists from all Connecticut counties; in New York, Westchester, Bronx, New York, Queens, Kings, Nassau, Richmond, Rockland, Putnam and Suffolk counties; in New Jersey, Bergen and Hudson counties. Submit up to six images of works currently available for purchase through the Artwork Archive Call for Entry portal, at no cost. The committee is limited in considering light-sensitive works that may fade, such as works on paper and certain textiles. Works do not need to be framed; state the framing status of each piece. In the application you may briefly share why you selected the pieces, and you enter a brief bio. Artists are not required to hold the pieces; email COA if a submitted work is no longer available. Selected artists may be asked for additional works. Artists available to present their work in classes, public presentations or panels after acquisition are of strong interest. Artists must be able to complete a W9 and contract with the State of Connecticut; contracts cannot be issued to a gallery, an estate or a non-profit. Works must be original, unique or part of a numbered edition, not accepted for sale elsewhere, and free from faults of material and workmanship for 24 months after payment. Payment is made about 30 days after the work is inspected and picked up by DECD; the State may reproduce images of the work for its promotional media. Rolling review over a few months.
