About this call
The Adirondack Experience, The Museum on Blue Mountain Lake (ADKX) offers four one-month residencies for its 2027 season, in June, July, August and September. Residents spend at least three days a week, about 10 AM to 4 PM, making their own work in the museum's public grounds, inspired by the surrounding nature and the collection, with short informal exchanges with visitors. Two days a week (Fridays and Saturdays) they work in the Art Lab makerspace and guide drop-in activities for visitors, with a $250 materials allowance from the museum. By arrangement with curatorial staff, residents may spend a limited amount of time in the collection storage areas on weekdays before 10 AM, and each gives one 15 to 20 minute presentation to staff toward the end of the residency. Each artist receives a $5,000 stipend, a $500 travel allowance and a private room in the museum's Residence building at no cost. The museum has a first option to buy one work made during the residency at fair market price. Zoom interviews take place in early February; selected artists are notified by February 20, 2027.

- Open to artists of any nationality who make work with a direct connection to the visual arts. Do not include workshop proposals. Digital-first and performance artists must include a statement on how visitors can watch their creative process during the residency; a culminating performance, presentation or exhibition does not count. Selected artists work in the museum's public areas at least three days a week for a minimum of 6 hours a day (about 10 AM to 4 PM), spend Fridays and Saturdays (10 AM to 4:30 PM) in the Art Lab, where activities must be something visitors take home and can finish in a short time (minimum of 5 minutes), and give one 15 to 20 minute presentation to staff toward the end of the residency. Residents provide their own materials, except for the Art Lab activity. Housing is a private room up a staircase with a shared bathroom; ADKX provides no computer or separate office space; pets are not allowed. Selection favours a variety of mediums and under-collected and under-represented artists. Applicants who are not legal US residents must obtain and pay for any visa or documentation themselves; ADKX cannot sponsor a visa but can confirm the offer. Questions by November 30. Late and incomplete applications will not be considered.
