About this call
Ubah Rumah, meaning Home of Change in Malay, is an artist residency and research station on Nikoi Island in the Riau archipelago, Indonesia, drawing inspiration from the nomadic Orang Laut maritime culture of the region. The residency hosts artists and researchers from Southeast Asia whose work explores the intersection of art, ecology, and hospitality. Residents activate the Living Studio through bespoke engagements or experiences for island guests, contributing to the collective archive of text, photography, and audiovisual materials. Ubah Rumah is co-led by artist Alecia Neo and photographer Ernest Goh, and is supported by the National Arts Council of Singapore and partners including Nikoi Island and Ayer Ayer. Applicants propose two possible residency periods of between four and six weeks each, and prepare a 300-word artist statement and a 300-word project proposal describing the work they wish to develop.
