About this call

Sixi Museum, a non-profit art institution in Nanjing, China, invites artists of all disciplines to apply for its 2027 Spring (March to May) and Autumn (September to November) residencies. Proposals must address one of two themes: "Flux and Imprints: Contemporary Echoes of Migration History", on cross-regional mobility, the family histories of overseas Chinese, the legacy of colonialism in Asia and identity formation; or "Folds of Text: Cross-Media Intertextuality and Intervention", on text as a medium across literature, linguistics, music and sound, and the visual arts. The program hosts two artists at a time and covers visa application, round-trip flights, insurance, accommodation in a private apartment or loft studio, staff and technical assistance, and a material allowance. Residents take part in events including an artist talk, a workshop and an open studio, are expected to produce a tangible and presentable outcome, may exhibit at the end, and are expected to donate a selection of works made during the residency to the museum.

Applications that do not meet these requirements will not be reviewed. Deadline is 15 November 2026, Beijing Time (GMT+8). A video interview may be held if necessary; final responses by mid-February 2027. International artists should allow time for visa processing, usually at least 2 to 3 months.
