About this call
The International Fellowship Program at the Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice, Italy, is open to university students and recent graduates with a background in art, art history, museum studies or related fields. This application is for placements from May to December 2027. Fellowships last one, two or three full calendar months, with €1,000, €2,000 or €3,000 respectively, paid as a €1,000 cheque on the first weekday of each month. The program is non-departmental and full-time: fellows support the Visitor Services and Education departments, prepare and deliver talks on Peggy Guggenheim's life and collection and on the temporary exhibitions, have dedicated study time with access to the museum library, take part in staff-led presentations and extracurricular visits, and give a 20-minute seminar on a topic of their choice towards the end of the placement. Each year five candidates are selected from all successful applicants to receive an Impact Fellowship. Applicants for May to December will be notified by email on February 16, 2027.
Who can apply
- Open to applicants of any nationality
- Medium: Curatorial
- Entry fee: See official site
- For international applicants and Italian citizens officially residing abroad (registered with A.I.R.E.); Italian students apply for a curricular internship instead. Open to current university students or recent graduates (within twelve months of the application deadline) holding a bachelor's or master's degree, with a background in art, art history, museum studies or related fields. English is the common language, and daily interaction requires conversational competence in Italian. Fellows are present on site in Venice for the whole placement, full-time, at least five days a week; fellowship periods always run for full calendar months. Before arrival, fellows complete a mandatory online Security and Safety Training, and towards the end each fellow gives a 20-minute seminar. Fellows find and pay for their own accommodation (the museum shares a list of rooms; monthly rent typically €500 to €1,000; some landlords ask for a deposit, often one month's rent). The museum can support a study visa application through the fellow's university once accepted. Apply through the online form with a CV (internships and work experience, relevant academic courses, language skills), a letter of motivation (maximum one page, 11-point font) and two reference letters (one academic and one professional is ideal; referees may email letters to fellowship@guggenheim-venice.it, arriving by the deadline), and state the fellowship duration (one, two or three months) and the months you are available. University transcripts (in English or Italian), language certificates or proof of course enrollment are optional. Files must be PDF, max 5MB each, and the form must be completed in one sitting. Late or emailed applications are not considered.
