About this call
The Democracy Foundation, based in Kuldīga, Latvia, runs a three-week residency in Kuldīga from 3 to 23 August 2027 as part of the Liepāja European Capital of Culture 2027 programme. Six participants from different fields and European countries develop activities for the Kuldīga Democracy Festival, held on 20 and 21 August 2027 at the end of the residency: a game, a workshop, a performance, a new format for conversation or participation, or something that does not yet have a name. The organisers want ideas that turn festival visitors into active participants. Residents are encouraged to work together, though individual work is possible, and local people take part in planning. Applications are reviewed first, then shortlisted applicants have an online interview; results are announced in January 2027.
Who can apply
- Limited by country or region
- Medium: Performance / Mixed Media
- Entry fee: See official site
- Open to residents of European countries, not limited to EU Member States. People from a wide range of fields, places and backgrounds are invited to apply, among them civic activists, artists, researchers, journalists, educators, designers and architects. Over the three weeks, residents develop activities (a game, workshop, performance, new format for conversation or participation, or something else) for the Kuldīga Democracy Festival on 20 and 21 August 2027, working together or individually, with local people involved in planning. Six participants are selected in two stages: application review, then an online interview for shortlisted applicants. Selection considers the quality of the application and the potential of the idea, and the diversity of the group (professional background, country, age, gender and other aspects). Results are announced in January 2027. The residency runs 3 to 23 August 2027. The public page does not state an application fee.
