About this call

Quercus Heritage invites proposals for the design, realisation and installation of up to four mosaics, the public art and social value component of a new Bloor Homes housing development in the village of Langford in Central Bedfordshire, United Kingdom. The mosaics will tell the story of Langford, including recent archaeological finds on the site: the out-buildings of a Roman villa or farmstead and a Roman road or trackway. The design will be partly conceived with local school children and residents in workshops led by a professional facilitator, with heritage consultants and archaeologists. The artist's scope includes attending workshops, producing layout options, leading community participation in making parts of the mosaics, completing the mosaics in the studio and liaising on their final setting in permanent locations in the village. Consultation starts in November 2026, design runs December to January and making February to April, timescales subject to change.

Who can apply

  • Open to applicants of any nationality
  • Medium: Installation / Mixed Media
  • Entry fee: See official site
  • Bids from early as well as more advanced career bidders are equally welcome. Send by email to fares.moussa@quercusheritage.com the completed tender form, work samples or portfolio, a CV, and an itemised estimate of costs (fees for each section, materials including installation materials, expenses), quoting under or as close to £12,000 as possible. The form asks about indemnity and liability insurance, and the artist may be asked to provide or apply for an enhanced DBS clearance. The artist works with a professional workshop facilitator for engagement activities. A percentage of fees is invoiced in advance and the remainder on delivery of the completed mosaics (percentages to be agreed); advisory and attendance activities for setting and unveiling the mosaics take place after the balance invoice is settled. Tenders received up to 12:00 noon GMT, Monday 2 November 2026, are reviewed on an ongoing basis. An informal conversation about the project can be arranged by email before 2 November.
