About this call
BASAR is a fully funded residency of two to three months at The Palestinian Museum in Birzeit, Palestine, run with the Sukhtian Foundation, for Palestinian artists, curators, arts educators and cultural practitioners in the diaspora. It supports research-led work on Palestinian cultural narratives, histories, memory and everyday life, with access to the Museum's archives, exhibitions, collections and cultural networks. This is the inaugural edition; residencies begin between January and June 2027.

Applicants should demonstrate a strong artistic, curatorial, educational or research-led practice, understanding of and sensitivity to the political and cultural context in Palestine, openness to public engagement and collaborative work with cultural organisations and practitioners in Palestine, and commitment to Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) guidelines. Proposals engage with one or more areas of focus: archives and cultural memory; material culture and traces of history in place; landscape, erasure and steadfastness; everyday life and cultural practices; identity, diaspora, exile, refugeehood and forced displacement. Shortlisted applicants are interviewed; applicants are notified in January to February 2027, and the exact dates and duration of each residency are agreed with the selected resident. Selected residents secure their own visas and travel permissions (the Museum can provide an invitation or confirmation letter); costs for accompanying guests and personal travel or activities outside the programme are not covered.
