About this call
The Paul & Daisy Soros Fellowships for New Americans fund the graduate education of 30 immigrants and children of immigrants each year, in any field of study, at accredited graduate or professional programs in the United States. Each Fellow receives up to $90,000 over two years: up to $25,000 a year in stipend paid to the Fellow and up to $20,000 a year in tuition support paid to the university, covering at most 50% of tuition and fees. Fellows attend the annual Fall Conference in New York City, paid for by the program, and join a lifelong community of PD Soros Fellows. Selection looks for creativity, originality and initiative, sustained accomplishment, a commitment to the values of the US Constitution and the Bill of Rights, promise of continued significant contributions, and graduate training relevant to long-term career goals. The top 77 applicants are interviewed virtually in late January and early February 2027, Fellows are notified in March 2027 and funding begins in fall 2027.

- All requirements must be true as of the deadline. You must be 30 or younger (no minimum age). You must be an immigrant or the child of immigrants: if you are an immigrant, a naturalized US citizen, a green card holder, an asylee or refugee, someone adopted by American parents and awarded US citizenship through the adoption, or someone who graduated from both high school and college in the United States (this includes current and past DACA recipients); if you are a US citizen by birth, both birth parents must have been born abroad as non-US citizens and not eligible for US citizenship at birth, or you were raised by only one birth parent who was born abroad as a non-US citizen and had no contact with the other. You must have a bachelor's degree by fall 2027 and plan to be enrolled full-time in a fully accredited graduate or professional degree program in the United States for the whole 2027-2028 academic year; you do not need to be admitted yet, online programs are eligible, and if you are already in graduate school you must not have started the third year of the program you seek funding for. Executive programs, joint bachelor's/master's programs awarded simultaneously, certificate and post-baccalaureate programs, programs outside the United States and programs not fully accredited are not eligible. The free online application asks for transcripts, a resume or CV, two essays of up to 1,000 words each, standardized test scores if your program required them, optional exhibits, and 3 to 5 recommendations, which are also due by the deadline. Materials are not accepted by mail or email and there are no exceptions to the deadline. Finalists must provide documentation of their eligibility. Fellows must attend the Fall Conference in New York City (paid for by the program), cannot work full-time during their graduate program, must remain in good standing and submit an exit report; the first year cannot be deferred.
