About this call

The Center for Art and Advocacy Fellowship (formerly Right of Return) awards six USD 20,000 grants to directly impacted artists who have been incarcerated in US prisons, jails, or detention centers. Fellows receive mentorship and community building opportunities to advance creative projects addressing mass incarceration and social change. All creative disciplines are accepted. Fellows must collaborate with an advocacy organization during project development.

  • Applicants must have been personally incarcerated in US prisons, jails, or detention centers. US-based applicants only (all 50 states, Washington DC, and Puerto Rico). Must be 18 or older at time of application. Must agree to collaborate with an advocacy organization during project development and execution. All creative disciplines accepted: visual art, film, music, creative writing, performance, design, and multidisciplinary practices.
