IASPIS Residency in Bangalore at 1Shanthiroad, 2027

The Swedish Arts Grants Committee runs its IASPIS residencies abroad with local partners, and the Bangalore placement sits at 1Shanthiroad Studio/Gallery, an artist-run residency and exhibition space founded in 2003 by Suresh Jayaram. The building holds four small studio residences for visiting Indian and international artists, a gallery, and a courtyard used for screenings, workshops and meetings, so the resident lands directly inside a working art community rather than in isolation. The stay lasts two months during 2027 and is meant to give the artist room to develop their practice while building contacts in the city's contemporary art and cultural scene. Applications are assessed first for formal eligibility, then by the international panel of the Visual Artists' Fund, with at least two panel members reading each one; both artistic quality and financial need count in the decision. A decision is expected in November 2026.

- The grant is aimed at professional artists in visual and applied arts, including visual art, photography, design, crafts, illustration, textile art and architecture. You must be a resident in Sweden or primarily practise your art here; a Swedish citizen living abroad has to show that most of their artistic activity happens in Sweden. You must not be a student for more than 50 per cent of your time, must have no debts referred to the Swedish Enforcement Authority, and must not have received de minimis aid above 300,000 euros over three years. Applications are individual only, no groups, and must reach the e-service by 14.00 CET on the deadline day. Work samples number 5 to 10, in jpg, mp3, mp4 or mov. The housing rules out bringing a partner, children or pets.
