About this call

The Beinecke Library Fellowship Program supports graduate students who want to carry out onsite research with Yale Library Special Collections materials for one to four months. Applications are welcome from students enrolled in graduate programmes at Yale and at any other university or college, locally or globally, and the programme states that it aims to serve the broadest possible group of researchers regardless of institutional association, race, cultural background, ability, sexual orientation, gender or socioeconomic status. Both traditional archival and bibliographic research and creative, interdisciplinary or non traditional approaches to the collections are encouraged. This is a full time residential fellowship: fellows are expected to spend most of their time in the reading room, to take part in the intellectual life of the university and to acknowledge the fellowship in resulting publications and lectures. Applicants should be at an advanced stage of their research or prospectus development and propose a fully conceptualised project tied to their degree programme. Decisions are announced by January 31, 2027 and awards cannot be deferred.

Who can apply

  • International applicants
  • Medium: Writing
  • Entry fee: See official site
  • Applicants must be enrolled in a graduate degree programme (PhD, MFA, MA, MPhil, MBA and similar) at the time the fellowship is taken; those graduating before the residency should apply to the Short Term Research Fellowship instead. All materials go through Interfolio by the September 15, 2026 deadline: an application form, a CV of at most 3 pages, a research proposal of at most 1,200 words covering significance, value and feasibility, a detailed list of materials to be examined with call numbers and links, and one confidential letter of recommendation, preferably from the dissertation chair or academic advisor. Previous recipients of this fellowship are considered only in exceptional circumstances. Only Yale University Library materials are eligible for fellowship funding.
