The Lisa Brown and Daniel Handler Residency is an annual program run by Friends of the San Francisco Public Library, joined for the 2026-2027 cycle by publisher McSweeney's as a program partner. It provides one San Francisco-based writer with free studio space at the Friends' offices for a full year, running from September through August. The program is open across genres, including fiction, nonfiction, children's writing and illustration, poetry, and playwriting or screenwriting.
