K3 | Tanzplan Hamburg, the city's centre for choreography, is offering three paid eight-month residencies for early-career choreographers, running from August 2027 through April 2028. Selected choreographers research their own projects while based in Hamburg and develop a full-length piece that premieres in the city, with the aim of strengthening ties between choreographic practice, research, and production. The residency covers a monthly scholarship for living and accommodation costs (about EUR 2,500 per month in the most recent cycle), one-time travel expenses, visa support, and a production budget for the final performance, alongside use of K3's studios and support from its dramaturgy, technical, and public relations teams. Applicants must be at an early stage of their career with several self-produced works already completed outside an educational context, and must be available to be based in Hamburg for the full eight months. Only individual applicants are accepted, not teams or ensembles, and the program explicitly welcomes choreographers from all countries with no requirement for formal dance training. The application runs in stages: a short initial submission, an extended written application in September for shortlisted candidates, and final Zoom interviews before a year-end decision.
