Light & Shadow 2027

About this call

Light & Shadow 2027 is an international juried art competition by Curatone.art, a Berlin-based curatorial institution, on the relationship between light and darkness, from close observation of the visible world to abstract, imagined and symbolic interpretations. Painting, drawing, photography, sculpture, textile, mixed media and digital art are welcome. After a curatorial selection, works by artists who confirm participation are scored by the jury on a ten-point scale. Selected works appear in an online group exhibition and in an exhibition catalogue with an ISBN, available on Amazon. Results and the exhibition are published on January 25, 2027.

• Open to artists aged 18 and over, worldwide. The call invites work in which the relationship between light and shadow plays an essential role, figurative or abstract. Media: painting, drawing, photography, sculpture, textile, mixed media and digital art; three-dimensional works are submitted as a clear photograph, and no physical artwork is shipped. Works must be original and made by the participant. Applicants must say whether and how they used AI; partial use of AI tools is allowed, fully AI-generated images used without further processing are not accepted. Images JPEG or PNG, up to 4 MB per artwork. One artwork can be submitted free; a single $10 payment adds up to two more, for a maximum of three artworks per artist across all entries (the $10 is non-refundable and does not guarantee selection). Use the same email address for the entry and the payment. Artists who pass the curatorial selection are invited by email with a payment deadline; those who choose to take part pay a one-time $25 participation fee per artist covering all accepted works (online exhibition, catalogue publication, finalist diploma, jury evaluation protocol), or an optional $50 package that adds an Artist Interview. If none of your works is selected, no participation fee is due. If a prize winner bought the $50 package, the $25 interview upgrade is refunded. Printed catalogue copies and delivery are bought separately. Curatone.art may publish submitted artworks, artist names and biographies on its website, social media and promotional materials; copyright stays with the artist.
