About this call
Wave Farm, in Acra, New York, United States, invites artists, researchers and tinkerers to propose projects for up to 6 research and production opportunities in 2027. There are four tracks in one application: a 10-day Transmission Art residency to develop a new transmission artwork, a 10-day Spatial Sound residency with a dedicated 8-channel studio, a 2-month Radio Art Fellowship (Research) to select works for Wave Farm's Broadcast Radio Art Archive and produce a 2- or 3-episode series for WGXC 90.7-FM, beginning with a 10-day visit to Wave Farm and continuing remotely, and a 2-month Radio Art Fellowship (Community Engagement) to develop and lead a public workshop on radio, with remote preparation, a 10-day onsite period and published documentation. Residents and fellows have access to a research library, equipment, workspace and staff support, and stay in the Wave Farm Study Center in the northern foothills of the Catskills during their time on site.

- International open call. Applicants should make a compelling argument for the proposed project and either have a significant body of past transmission-related work or show the aptitude and capacity to develop it. Full-time students are ineligible, with case-by-case exceptions for career artists and writers who have returned to school for post-graduate work. DJ sets are not eligible. Past residents and fellows may apply. Collaborative duos and collectives may apply. One application covers all four opportunities; successful applicants are offered one. Each track asks for 1 to 3 links to past work and a CV; residencies also ask for a project title, project description, artist statement and technical needs; Spatial Sound samples must show previous experience with spatial audio. The Research fellowship asks for a statement of interest (about 500 words), a curatorial and research proposal, one example artwork for the archive (fellows may not add their own work) and audio editing experience; the Community Engagement fellowship asks for a statement of interest and a workshop proposal, with at least one workshop held in person. Residents and fellows pay their own travel and meals; an advance on the stipend for travel may be available case by case. Overnight guests and pets are not permitted. Finalists are interviewed on Zoom; notifications in late February.
