About this call

The Emmanuel College Art Department in Boston, United States, offers a six-week summer residency to four artists, from June 16 to July 28, 2027, aiming to award one residency in each of four categories: Ceramics, Photography, Printmaking and Social Practice. Residents receive a $1,500 stipend, lodging in the college dormitories with access to a small kitchen, and access to shared studios including the Ceramics Studio, Wood Shop, Print Shop, Photography Studio, Darkroom, Design Lab and Drawing and Painting Studio. International artists may be eligible for up to $1,000 more toward travel and visa costs. The residency ends with an on-campus exhibition, and each artist donates one work to the college.

Who can apply

  • International applicants
  • Medium: Ceramics / Photography / Printmaking
  • Entry fee: See official site
  • Artists must not be currently enrolled in any academic program. Conversational English is required. International artists must obtain a visa to participate. Individual artists only; partners and spouses are not included and dormitory lodging is for the artist only. The dorms may be up to a 25-minute walk from the campus studios, and artists cover any transport between them. Artists must be on site for the whole residency, cover all their own material, food, shipping and transportation costs, take part in occasional interactions with Emmanuel faculty, staff and students, and donate one piece to Emmanuel College at the end; they may be invited back for a presentation the following academic year. Faculty and students are generally not on campus in summer, and the college does not offer networking with Boston's wider art community. Apply by email to ecar@emmanuel.edu with one PDF of no more than 10MB named FirstName_LastName_AreaToWhichYouAreApplying.pdf (Ceramics, Photography, Printmaking or Social Practice): a resume or CV, an artist statement, 20 portfolio images with descriptions of each piece, and a project proposal describing what you intend to do and make during the residency.
