Edgewood Cottage Artists in Residence 2027 Season

About this call

The Blowing Rock Historical Society's Artists in Residence program gives selected artists a scheduled week, Monday to Sunday, between Memorial Day and Labor Day, to exhibit and sell their work in Edgewood Cottage in Blowing Rock, open daily 10am to 5pm. Artists usually share the cottage with at least one other artist during their week and share information with visitors about the Historical Society, Edgewood Cottage and the artist Elliot Daingerfield. The 2027 season is open to artists who live at least three months a year in one of thirteen High Country counties. Selection is by an anonymous committee of artists and art collectors.

• You must live at least three months of the year in one of these counties: Watauga, Ashe, Avery, Wilkes, Caldwell, Burke, Catawba, Alleghany, Mitchell, Yancey, McDowell, Madison or Buncombe. Selected artists attend a half-day artist orientation in early May, share the cottage with at least one other artist during their week, bring enough inventory to fill half the cottage, set up before noon on Monday and take down Sunday after closing, must be present (or arrange coverage) during daily operating hours, and complete the Artist's Evaluation Form and leave it at the cottage on the final Sunday. Fees, paid by check at the cottage on the final Sunday of the show: an $85 participation fee for selected first-time artists (alumni do not pay it), a 25% donation to the Blowing Rock Historical Society on total sales during the show (excluding taxes), and 25% on sales or commissions within one month that result from the show. To apply, download the PDF application form (it asks for your medium, an artist statement, your resume or CV, and which weeks between Memorial Day and Labor Day you cannot take), complete it in full (partially filled applications may be rejected) and email it with 8 JPEG photos of work you expect to sell to artistinresidenceedgewood@outlook.com, subject line "Artist Application - Your Name". Notifications are likely to begin in February.
