About this call

The Adachi UKIYOE Award (18th edition) seeks artists to become eshi, creating contemporary ukiyo-e through traditional Japanese woodcut printing techniques. Organized by the Adachi Foundation for the Preservation of Woodcut Printing, the award is open internationally to individual artists aged 15 and over, with no restrictions on genre or career background. Applicants submit images of 3 to 5 existing 2D works; winners have their works reproduced as authentic woodcut prints by Adachi artisans.

  • Applicants must be 15 years of age or older; those under 18 require parental or guardian consent; apply as an individual; no restrictions on genre, career background, or nationality; submit images of 3 to 5 previously created works on a flat surface such as paper or canvas; photographs, prints, and 3D works are excluded; if AI was used in creation it must be clearly stated; entry fee of JPY 2,000 required.
