About this call
Create Gwinnett, with Gas South District, the Sugarloaf Community Improvement District and The Hudgens Center for Art & Learning, is seeking artists for the Nicole Love Hendrickson Artway, a public art and placemaking installation on the stairway and surrounding area connecting the Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce to Gas South Arena in Duluth, Georgia. The project may include the stairs, the wall and the surrounding grass areas. Approaches may include murals, sculptural works, creative seating, interactive installations, environmental art, gateway features, lighting elements and landscape-integrated artwork. This is a Request for Qualifications: artists submit past work, not concepts. Three finalists each receive a $1,500 stipend to develop a site-specific concept and present it; one artist is then selected for final design and installation, with an anticipated budget of $20,000 to $40,000. Installation is anticipated to begin in April 2027.
Who can apply
- Open to applicants of any nationality
- Medium: Painting / Sculpture / Installation
- Entry fee: See official site
- Open to all artists regardless of location who are able to participate in the required site visits and project activities; artists who live, work, maintain a studio or have demonstrated connections to Gwinnett County are strongly encouraged. Do not submit project concepts at this stage. Submit one PDF by email to chris@creategwinnett.org with the subject line "Nicole Love Hendrickson Artway Artist RFQ - [Artist Name]", containing basic information (name, city/state, email, phone, website or social media), artist discipline, a statement of interest (500 words max), relevant experience (500 words max), up to 5 work samples (each with title, location, year, medium, brief description and your role if there were collaborators; images or portfolio links) and a current resume or CV. Time spent preparing qualifications is not compensated. Questions are due by November 13, 2026. The selected artist contracts with Create Gwinnett as an independent contractor responsible for taxes, insurance and business expenses, and, unless the agreement says otherwise, for providing materials, equipment, transportation and fabrication within the project budget; insurance may be required.
