About this call
The Elliott Museum in Stuart, Florida, seeks original artwork inspired by Patrick D. Smith's novel A Land Remembered: its people, places, wildlife, landscapes, scenes and themes of pioneer Florida. All artistic styles and media are welcome, including painting, drawing, watercolor, mixed media, printmaking, sculpture and photography. Selected works will be shown in the A Land Remembered exhibition from December 2, 2026 to May 30, 2027, with an opening reception on December 1, 2026. A jury awards first, second and third place cash prizes of $300, $200 and $100, and work may be offered for sale.
Who can apply
- Open to applicants of any nationality
- Medium: Painting / Drawing / Mixed Media / Printmaking / Sculpture / Photography
- Entry fee: See official site
- Open to artists of all ages and from all geographic locations; artists under 18 need the consent of a parent or legal guardian, who completes or co-signs the documentation. One original artwork per artist, existing or newly made, which the artist owns or has the legal right to exhibit and, if applicable, sell. Artwork created wholly or substantially through generative AI, or whose visual content was generated or substantially altered with generative AI, is not eligible; traditional digital tools are permitted. The submission asks for artist name, artwork title, year created, medium, dimensions, retail price or NFS, insurance value if requested, a digital image, and an artist statement, biography or other requested information; any unusual mounting, electrical, structural, weight or installation needs must be disclosed. The artist must read, agree to and electronically sign the Call to Artists Rules, Terms and Artist Agreement. Artists are notified by email and phone on November 5, 2026. Selected work must arrive at the museum by November 20, 2026, must match the submitted image, dimensions, medium and description (no substitutions without written approval), is inspected on delivery, and stays for the whole exhibition to May 30, 2027 (withdrawal only with the museum's written approval); pickup is on June 10, 2027, and work not collected within 30 days of the pickup date becomes the property of the Historical Society of Martin County. Artists pay transport and shipping both ways, and any transit insurance, unless otherwise agreed in writing. 2-D work must be professionally presented with secure hanging hardware (no sawtooth hangers); 3-D work must be stable and suitable for public display. Attending the opening reception is encouraged but not required. Sales go through the museum: 65% to the artist, 35% to the Historical Society of Martin County, paid out within 30 days after the exhibition closes; the listed price cannot be changed after acceptance, and artists may not sell the work directly while it is in the exhibition.
