About this call

The MIT Museum in Cambridge, Massachusetts, United States, seeks proposals for digital content that explores humanity's relationship with the brain, for its BRAIN thematic focus from April to September 2027. Selected work plays as ambient content on a two-story digital screen in the Lee Family Exchange, an amphitheater at the heart of the museum. The Museum is looking for immersive, non-linear and experimental content, such as non-didactic visualizations of data or scientific phenomena, and work that brings art and science together. Proposals must run on the existing LED video wall (3840 x 3024, aspect ratio 80:63) and Windows PC; the Museum cannot change the hardware. Artists, scientists, engineers, designers and other creative practitioners may apply.

Who can apply

  • Open to applicants of any nationality
  • Medium: New Media / Video
  • Entry fee: See official site
  • Applicants must be 18 or older. Open to artists, scientists, engineers, designers and other creative practitioners, including MIT students, staff and faculty and the wider community; individuals or organizations. Content should suit curious adults and teens (middle school and above). No visitor interactivity (touchscreens, QR codes); content-critical audio is discouraged. A valid license or written authorization is required for any third-party content. Proposals must fit the existing hardware. Submit a title, a description of the content and its relation to BRAIN (up to 800 characters), proof-of-concept visuals (images or video, as attachment or URL) and any modifications needed for the hardware; the form also asks whether the content is ready for the hardware, what work remains to complete it by April 2027, and where it was shown before. More than one proposal is allowed. No extension; submissions can be edited until the call closes. Travel to the Museum is not covered; testing is done by the Museum's on-site teams with remote participation of the submitter as needed. The submitter keeps the intellectual property of the submission. Selections expected in January 2027.
