About this call

The Image Centre in Toronto offers six competitive fellowships for research related to photography in 2027, and the Wendy Snyder MacNeil Research Fellowship is one of them. Candidates should possess or be working towards at least an undergraduate degree, or be photo-based artists. Their research should use the collections and resources of The Image Centre or Toronto Metropolitan University Archives and Special Collections to support new perspectives on the work of women photographers, including Wendy Snyder MacNeil. The fellow carries out research onsite for a minimum of one and a maximum of four weeks, between February 15 and December 15, 2027. The fellowship was established in memory of the photographer and filmmaker Wendy Snyder MacNeil, whose entire personal photographic archive is held by The Image Centre. Research fellows study the Image Centre's photography collections first-hand, including the Black Star Collection of photo-reportage with over a quarter-million prints, a historic and fine art photography collection, and archives devoted to photographers including Jo Spence, Berenice Abbott, Minna Keene and Wendy Snyder MacNeil.
