Visual Arts Creation Residency 2027, City of Angers

About this call

The City of Angers, France, offers a two-month creation residency in March and April 2027 for one or more professional visual artists, in any medium and with no age limit. The selected artist works in a 50 m² studio with a garden at the Repaire Urbain (RU), a municipal cultural venue about five minutes on foot from the station, with weekly exchanges with a committee of the city's culture professionals and support from the RU team. The residency leads to an exhibition in the RU's 285 m² main hall from June to September 2027, curated by the RU director and the head of the Artothèque. The budget covers a €5,000 fee, €2,000 in production costs and €1,000 in exhibition rights, and the city can arrange and pay directly for lodging in a flat shared with other artists or a hotel, up to €2,000 for the whole residency; the city also covers the exhibition's production, communication and opening. Further support includes access to the resources of the TALM-Angers art school and a pass to the city's five museums.

• Open to all professional visual artists, any medium, no age limit. Applicants must be able to issue invoices: the application must include a SIRET number or any administrative and tax document proving this capacity, and a social security number. Residency dates in March and April 2027 are agreed with the artist; at least 20 full days of presence in the studio over the two months (open Monday to Friday 9:00 to 18:00 and Saturday 12:30 to 18:00, except public holidays), at least two public meetings, presence during the European Heritage Days, and presence while the RU team installs and takes down the exhibition. The fee is paid 50% on signing the agreement and 50% at the exhibition opening; production costs are paid on presentation of invoices. Travel and food are at the artist's own cost. The PDF holds a statement of intent with research directions, intended media and a proposed format for showing the work, a provisional budget, and an artist dossier with portfolio and detailed CV. Incomplete applications are not considered. The jury meets on 8 December 2026; all applicants receive a reply during January at the latest.
