Tallgrass Artist Residency 2027

About this call

The Tallgrass Artist Residency offers individual artists and artist teams time and space to retreat and research in a rural tallgrass prairie setting in Matfield Green, Kansas, United States, 20 miles from Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve. Residencies are two weeks (10 nights) between April and September 2027, with lodging at Matfield Station. Each artist receives a $650 stipend from the Kansas Arts Commission for travel and material reimbursement after the residency, and may be granted special access to the Preserve upon request. Residents give a public program during their stay, post daily on Instagram, write a post-residency summary for the website, and later share post-residency work. Residents arrange their own transportation and food. The residency mainly serves artists living in the prairie ecoregion, with one period reserved for an artist from outside it as an ecoregion exchange.
