About this call

What orientates us? What are the tools we use to understand where we are, where we have been and where we might go? The Gallery at Graphite asks artists to take up maps, cartographic imagery, scientific models, mathematics, weather patterns and the countless other systems, imaginary or real, obscure or obvious, that help people find their place and stay oriented. Perspectives on Orientation wants work that investigates how we locate ourselves inside a world that keeps changing, and that turns a system of orientation into something visually compelling enough to make a viewer reconsider their own perspective. The exhibition is juried and open to all media. Selection weighs strength of concept, relationship to the theme, technical command, overall execution and adherence to the submission guidelines. The Gallery at Graphite sits inside Graphite Arts Center, a non-profit that opened in 2022 in downtown Edmonds, Washington, and has hosted 28 exhibitions in its 760 square foot space.
