About this call
Sutton Courtenay Parish Council is seeking expressions of interest from artists, craftspeople or designers to design and create a series of artistic works for the village green at Sutton Courtenay, Oxfordshire. The works must also serve a functional purpose as vehicle barriers that prevent cars parking on and damaging the grass. The green currently has 199 wooden posts covering a circumference of 300 metres, all in constant need of maintenance; the same designed barriers are also intended for the nearby Liversidge Patch. Features may be made from wood, stone, metal or concrete and could include planting, and must be robust, durable and easy to maintain. Artists are encouraged to explore themes reflecting the village's history, its connection to literature and local wildlife. The commission runs in two separately contracted phases: 6,000 pounds is available for Phase 1 research, community consultation and design, and a further 60,000 pounds for Phase 2 fabrication, delivery, installation and continued community involvement. Submissions must include insurance and DBS confirmation, a budget breakdown, previous work examples and references, and must be received by 12 noon on Wednesday 19 August 2026.
