About this call

FLUX Rotherham is commissioning an immersive artwork or series of artworks that uses projection, light and sound to animate the interior of Rotherham Minster for a Winter Story Festival. FLUX Rotherham is based at Voluntary Action Rotherham and is one of 38 programmes in the Arts Council England Creative People and Places programme; for 2027 it will partner with Rotherham Council and Grimm & Co to scale the event across the town centre. The theme is Winter Stories and Fairytales, and the brief asks for a lead artwork exploring the idea of looking up, drawing audiences towards the heights of the Minster's architecture to discover children's stories and folklore. Proposals should incorporate the ideas, voices or artworks of community members, children and young people. The budget is £30,000 excluding VAT and must cover all artist fees, community pre-engagement, installation and delivery across the two festival nights, team accommodation, equipment hire, consumables and music licensing. The festival runs on the evenings of Friday 5 and Saturday 6 February 2027. Shortlisting is carried out by a Children and Young People's panel aged 13 to 25, and shortlisted artists attend an online interview. Proposals are emailed by 12 midday on 31 August 2026.
