About this call

The Alabama Historical Commission is seeking qualifications for an artist commission honoring the survivors of the Clotilda, the last known ship to traffic African captives to the United States. The permanent outdoor memorial will sit on a site in southern coastal Alabama connected to the survivor story, and will be developed through engagement with historic Africatown and the wider diaspora. The process runs in two stages: an RFQ closing August 9, 2026, then an RFP for invited finalists, with the awardee notified November 2, 2026.
