About this call

CURRENTS New Media invites submissions for the CURRENTS 2027 Art & Technology Festival, held June 11 to 20, 2027 at El Museo Cultural in Santa Fe, New Mexico, United States. Categories are installations (interactive and non-interactive), audio experiences, virtual, augmented and mixed reality environments, robotics, kinetic and electro-mechanical objects and installations, multimedia performance, fabrication, 2D/3D printing and wearables, and experimental single channel video, documentary and animation. Artists in five categories may be eligible for travel, lodging, shipping and equipment support, and artists in Fabrication for shipping and equipment support. Travel support depends on whether the artist needs to be present to install the work and on the festival's financial resources given present funding uncertainties; shipping for international artists, and for Multimedia Performance their travel, may not be covered, and the festival may be able to supply needed equipment. Works in progress are reviewed if the samples demonstrate a strong body of work, and AI is accepted as a creative tool.

Who can apply

  • Open to applicants of any nationality
  • Medium: New Media / Installation / Video / Performance / Sculpture
  • Entry fee: $30
  • Fee: $30 for a single submission, $25 each when entering multiple submissions (a separate form and payment for each; no confirmation is sent without payment). A limited number of fee waivers for a single submission go to artists experiencing financial difficulties, first come first served, on request through the contact page; do not ask if you are able to pay. No deadline extensions. Work samples must be viewable online (personal website, YouTube, Vimeo or Google); the form asks for a link to view the work (and its password if protected), the title, year created, where you live and the names of any collaborators. It also asks for: a brief bio and a brief statement about the work (each 1,000 characters with spaces, max 150 words), a PDF description of the work including the minimum number of artists required to travel (if applicable), a CV (PDF), 2 or 3 still images of the proposed work (.jpg, 2MB to 4MB, each file labelled with the artwork title and artist name), a floor plan of ideal space requirements (.jpg or .pdf), and equipment lists (PDF) of what you can supply and what the festival must supply, including tables, pedestals and props. Indicate in the work statement if and how you use AI. Single channel video must be 12 minutes or less; multi-channel video installations go under Installations. VR is preferred viewable in a standalone Quest 3 or Quest 2, not tethered to a PC, but tethered works are considered. The festival will Zoom with all artists it is interested in presenting. Notification: February 15, 2027 for most categories, March 15, 2027 for experimental single channel video, documentary and animation.
