About this call

Short-Term Projects is one of five funding opportunities in the Canada Council for the Arts' program Creating, Knowing and Sharing: The Arts and Cultures of First Nations, Inuit and Métis Peoples. It provides project funding for First Nations, Inuit and Métis individuals, groups and organizations for activities of up to one year in length. The wider program supports Indigenous individuals and groups, Indigenous-led arts organizations and arts and cultural sector development organizations that foster a vital and resilient Indigenous arts ecosystem. It acknowledges the cultural sovereignty of Indigenous peoples and respects the concept of First Nations, Inuit and Métis self-determination, and the Council accepts as eligible many activities that reflect customary and contemporary Indigenous artistic practices. Applications are viewed, submitted and managed in the Council's client portal, which requires a validated applicant profile.

Who can apply

  • Domestic applicants
  • Medium: Mixed Media
  • Entry fee: See official site
  • Applicants must have a validated applicant profile in the Canada Council client portal and must meet the eligibility criteria set out in that profile. For individuals and groups this typically includes past learning or training, past compensation for arts activities, a commitment to a career in the arts, and recognition by other artists or arts workers. Activities proposed by someone younger than 18 years old are not eligible, nor are activities that fulfill the course requirements of a program at an educational institution. Application Assistance is available to lead applicants who self-identify as First Nations, Inuit or Métis facing language, geographic or cultural barriers, and to those who are Deaf, hard of hearing, have a disability or live with mental illness. Each funding opportunity also sets its own eligible applicants, activities and expenses, published in the portal.
